Want some of this - process

Process of this [link] picture!
I've always wanted to do a process picture, and finally decided to take action. I would still like to do more detailed one somewhere in the future thought - this is very simple version. But yeah, some sort of explanation of how I do my pics!

Step 1. Sketch that mo'fo'!
This is a bit extraordinary picture for me, as I first took a reference picture and then traced the position. Usually I just take reference or draw freely what comes to my mind, and then I always have to have two set of base sketch, one very rough with shitload of lines, then a bit cleaner version. This one only required the latter one.
Step 2. Lineart!
I am HORRIBLE at drawing a long, straight line. That's why I suck at linearts. I've now settled for a bit rougher lineart style, accepting that they are never going to be fully straight and smooth. I like how this one turned out, it's quite clear compared to majority of my work. Must be due clear base sketch.
Step 3. Some colors!
Base colors all picked out! No hard work there
Step 4. Biggest enemy - background
In addition to lineart, I also hate passionately backgrounds. I'm bad at coming up with one and on top of that they are the most boring things to paint. I usually just leave them at last so I can just make something up after my inspiration is used in the main character. Here however I just had to do it first - the fire was so defining thing in this picture I couldn't leave it last. I wouldn't have been able to color Mako if I didn't know where the fire goes.
Step 5. Draw the rest of the fucking picture
I totally didn't draw them eyebrows horribly wrong until this picture This stage took probably as long as all the other steps Not much process steps to show - I did all the shading by one color at time. I love coloring hair, but this time it was really hard. On this piece I think I like the jackets coloring the best - the colors came out just the way I imagined.
